Medical Terminology
Training Courses
Mediterm Training offers a variety of courses in Medical Terminology to suit all individual requirements, ranging from a one day (6 hours) Level 1 Introduction Course to the Level 3 Certificate in Medical Terminology. All courses, with the exception of Level 1 lead to the opportunity to sit the relevant *City and Guilds / AMSPAR examination.
*City and Guilds / AMSPAR (Association of Medical Secretaries, Practice Managers, Administrators and Receptionists) is a professional body for non-clinicians working in a healthcare environment. Achievement of the relevant certificate represents real ability in the knowledge and understanding of medical terminology.
Level One – Introduction to Medical Terminology
This tutor led course is held on demand over one full day or two half days. It is primarily designed for persons who require a working knowledge of medical terminology in their employment. Suitable candidates may be GP receptionists, health care workers, medico-legal administrators, support medical secretaries and NHS administrators. The course is held “in house” subject to a minimum of 6 students.

Level Two – City and Guilds / AMSPAR Award in Medical Terminology
This course may be delivered entirely online to individuals or through “blended learning” whereby the first module is delivered on site (minimum 6 students) and the remaining 5 modules online with mentoring and support. Six modules are studied over 12 weeks. Suitable candidates may include ward clerks, summarisers, GP receptionists, clinical coders, support medical secretaries and anyone working in a healthcare related environment. City and Guilds / AMSPAR examinations are held three times a year in January, June and November and courses will commence 12 weeks before these dates.

Level Three – City and Guilds / AMSPAR Certificate in Medical Terminology
This course may be delivered entirely online to individulals or through “blended learning” whereby the first module is delivered on site (minimum 6 students) and the remaining 9 modules online with full mentoring and support. Ten modules are studied over the course of 20 weeks. Suitable candidates may include medical secretaries, practice managers, clinical coders and summarisers. Level 3 City and Guilds / AMSPAR examinations are currently held three times a year in February, May and November and courses will commence 20 weeks before these dates.
It is not necessary to undertake the courses in order and many people commence directly at Level 3. The level at which you study is determined by yourself and the requirements of any position you may be seeking.
